Setting up a Google My Business listing for your company is a simple process that can be done within a few minutes. Here’s what you need to do to get started.
Step 1 – Sign Up For A Google Account
The first thing you will need to do is have a Google account. If you don’t you will need to set one up. Once done head over to Google My Business.
Step 2 – Sign In To Google My Business
Click on ‘Sign In’ and log into the Google account that you have created or want to be associated with your business.
Now enter the name of your business. If you have the same name as another business the autocomplete function will suggest that business for you. This allows you to see if your business listing already exists and to ensure you don’t create a duplicate listing. You can however add a new location to your existing listing.
For this process we are going to use ‘Digital agency test’ as an example. After you have entered your business name then click on ‘create a business with this name’.
Click on next.
Step 3 – Add A Location
In the next step, select yes to add a location to your business. You will then need to add your full business address. Ensure all the information is filled in accurately so Google can locate you.
Now set the marker to exactly where your business premise is. Simply click and drag the marker to the right position.
The next section will ask if you serve customers out of the location. If you do, click “Yes”. You will then need to add in the areas that you serve. Click “No” if you don’t, to go to the next step.
Step 4 – Choose Your Business Category
The next step is to choose the category that best describes our business, remember this is a very important field as it will influence the type of search terms your business will show up for. You can change, add or remove categories later on. Click next when category has been selected.
Step 5 – Contact Information
You now need to fill in your Business contact information. Add your business’s phone number and website URL (if you have one).
Step 6 – Complete Your Business Listing
Now click Finish to complete your GMB listing and move onto the next step.
Step 7 – Verify Your Business
In order to ensure accuracy and security of your business, you will need to verify it. There are two ways you can do this.
Postcard Verification – You can choose to verify your business via postcard, where Google will send you a postcard with the code at your business address. This may take up to 5 days. Should you not receive a postcard you can request another code.
Phone Verification – Get your code via an automated call from Google at the number you used for the listing. This option is only available to some businesses.
You can verify your listing later however, you won’t be able to fully manage your listing until it has been verified.
After receiving your code,click on verify now and enter the code given and then click on submit. Once completed, your profile should show up on Google Search.
Step 8 – Optimise Your GMB Listing
Once you have finished verifying your business, you can personalise it to improve your local search ranking.
Add Hours – Add your business hours and ensure they are kept up-to-date whenever they change. You can add custom hours for holidays and other special events.
Add Business Description – Add a description of your business and tell prospective customers what your business is about. Add your keywords and most important information to help your business stand out from the competition.
Add Logo & Cover Photo – Add your Business logo and a cover photo so customers and clients can identify your business.
Add Services – If your business provides services, you can display the name of the service, description and a price.
Add Products – If your business sells products, you can display the name of the product, description, price and a photo.
Add Photos – Add photos of your business, services and products to showcase to customers what the business is all about and grab their attention.
Add Videos – Add videos about your business. Showcase your service or product or you can give customers a tour of your premises.
Add Posts – Add posts about your business, offers, share and promote events. This is a new feature and will last for a week which will then require updating.
